Vietnamese Propaganda Posters
c1970s-2000. Collection of 19 original poster designs in gouache, all captioned in Vietnamese, sizes ranging from 48.6 x 69.7cm to 77.4 x 53.8cm. Creases, some tears, discolouration, paper loss and slight foxing overall. One image framed. The captions, as translated, are as follows: (1) The machinery to serve agriculture; (2) At all costs ensure smooth traffic; (3) Improve one’s life - every house in the countryside must have a fish pond and vegetable garden; (4) Healthy buffalo and cows for a stronger plow force; (5) Liberate South Vietnam and protect North Vietnam; (6) Developing carpet weaving for export; (7) Under the same roof; (8) 110th anniversary of the birth of Uncle Ho; (9) Welcoming the unified Vietnam; (10) Plant a lot of rubber for the nation; (11) Plant many reeds to weave carpets and straw mats for export; (12) Grow more oranges and bananas; (13) Complete any mission; (14) Try exceeding the target of 13 tonnes of corn per hectare of the rice field; (15) The American Air Force visit the lake in Hanoi; (16) Plant cotton to make fabric; (17) The happiness victory; (18) Transform hate into strength; and (19) 105th birthday anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh. These posters originated from the David Heather Collection, some are illustrated in the books Buchanan, Vietnam Posters: The David Heather Collection, 2009 and Artbook, Vietnam Posters and Billboards, 2012.
