“Tell Me Mary How To Woo Thee” Sung By Armes E. Beaumont

The photograph is a portrait of Edward (Armes) Beaumont (1842-1913), a British opera singer who arrived in Melbourne in 1848. He made his first public performance in 1861 as solo tenor in Handel’s Messiah. In 1867 Beaumont lost an eye in a shooting accident which left him dangerously ill: his recovery was aided by a benefit concert. He later went on to join the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Society.
