The theatre group KISS was created and directed by innovator Jean-Pierre Voos (1932-2008) who named the group “Kangaroos In Silk Stockings to avoid some never-quite-explained bureaucratic hassle in Holland, when he took 13 or so rookie Australians back there in 1983.” KISS became renowned for its “original interpretations of classics such as the Greek Oresteia and Dante’s Divine Comedy, and for its innovation in physical theatre.” Voos spent the last 25 years of his life in Townsville, “nurturing theatre talent.” Ref: Kinetic Energy Theatre; Real Time Arts; The Australian, 25.1.2008.
