John Lennon Commemorative Group

1971-1989. Group of eight posters consisting of five process lithographs and three linocut, letterpress and process screen newspaper headline posters, photographer’s line or artist name and date in three images lower right or centre, sizes range from 51.8 x 37.8cm to 88.6 x 58.8cm. Some posters with missing portions, repaired tears, perforations or old folds. Linen-backed.

This group includes:

(a) Four newspaper headline posters, reporting on Lennon’s death or commemorating his life;

(b) Advertising poster for Rolling Stone magazine’s January 1981 issue featuring a photograph of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, taken by Annie Liebovitz only hours before Lennon’s death;

(c) John Lennon playing piano in the studio for Imagine, by Peter Fordham. This poster was released as a pull-out poster with the 1971 album;

(d) Poster of an Astrid Kirchherr photograph of John Lennon in Hamburg, taken from The Beatles’ 1960 tour and reproduced in 1989 for the Lennon Statue Fund;

(e) Poster advertising “The Lennon Tapes”, featuring a photograph by Paul Williams. The tapes were recorded 48 hours before Lennon was murdered, and feature a three hour interview with Lennon and Ono by Andy Peebles in New York for BBC.
