Danish motor vessel Victoria ran aground Tunkalilla Beach in October 1934 during a storm. Despite attempts to free her with tugs, the ship broke up under the heavy pounding of waves. Crew members were winched ashore by a flying fox rigged from the beach. The ship was carrying 6000 tons of rock phosphate in its cargo.
