c1898. Signed hand-written letter in ink, 42.5 x 38cm (overall). Old discoloured mount. Framed. A typed transcript of the letter is framed alongside two reproduction portraits of Rudyard Kipling (Brit., 1865–1936): a silver gelatin photograph originally taken in 1934, and a newspaper clipping with image captioned “Rudyard Kipling in his library at Rottingdean, 1899.” The letter reads “Jan. 10, [18]98. In reply to your letter of the 4th, I am sorry that it is not in my power to grant you permission to quote from the article to which you refer as it will form a portion of another book.
