c1890s. Albumen paper photograph, cabinet card format, embossed text printed on original backing below image, annotated in ink with “Graham Collection” label on backing verso, 8.4 x 15cm. Slight discolouration, dents and scratches to surface. Provenance: Marjorie Graham, author and collector.

Thought-provoking text reads “A Happy New Year.” Annotation includes erroneous image description “Australian Corroboree.”

The image shows combatants holding boomerangs, spears and clubs in a battle stance. Most are wearing various items of non-indigenous clothing, including a leather belt.

Accompanied by detailed cataloguing information on envelope, typed by Graham.
