1912. Woodcut, signed in pencil in lower margin, 22.3 x 13.2cm. Repaired tears and surface loss, not affecting image. Backed with acid-free tissue. Illustrated and titled in Clark, Violet Teague, 1999, p60. This is the only known signed impression of this highly sought after image by Teague. Melbourne artist Violet Teague was the “first Australian to demonstrate a sustained interest in, and an understanding of Japanese woodblock printmaking.” She developed an interest in printing techniques while studying overseas at Atelier Blanc Garin, Brussels, between 1893 and 1896.
