Sonia Delaunay Exhibition Catalogues & Ephemera
1965–1986. This collection covers Delaunay’s work and exhibitions from the 1960s to the mid-1980s. It comprises: (1) 1965 exhibition catalogue with original lithograph cover, editioned 164 of 250 in pencil in inside of cover; (2) 1980 exhibition catalogue on black-and-white gouaches; (3) 1980 soft cover monograph covering Delaunay’s life and work; and (4) a large group of ephemera. All housed in a custom-made phase box, 26 (l) x 19 (w) x 5cm (h). Provenance: The Print Room (Sydney). One exhibition catalogue is from Gimpel & Hanover Gallery, Zurich and Gimpel Fils Gallery, London (1965 and 1966); and the other is from Gallerie Speiss, Paris, 1980. The monograph Sonia Delaunay: Sa vie, son oeuvre, 1885–1979 is by Bernard Dorival and was published in Paris in 1980. The ephemera consists of 16 Polaroid photographs of fabric designs by Delaunay; 42 snapshots covering potential exhibition lithographs and etchings for the 1986 Print Room exhibition in Sydney, some are annotated or titled verso, and eight installation shots; four exhibition leaflets; five postcards illustrating Delaunay’s work; two letters, one from a Queensland publisher, the other from a Zurich dealer; and a photocopy of press clipping on the 1986 exhibition held at the Print Room.
