Wallaroo Goes Walkabout. An Oz Pantomime For Everyone

Michael Bell frames the title with drooping eucalyptus branches inhabited by monkeys and birds, while a kangaroo, wombat and blue dog-like character walk along a brilliant yellow road across an orange landscape. Printed wording includes “by Ken Harper”, “St Johns Hall, Paddington, 11th–23rd May” and performance times and admission prices. The hand-drawn lettering and deliberately playful colour give the poster the immediacy of children’s theatre while retaining the vigorous graphic character of Sydney independent performance publicity. The dates, weekday schedule and surviving sale record establish the 1981 season. Produced for an “Oz pantomime” at St Johns Hall, the poster presents Australian animals and landscape as the cast and setting of an accessible local stage production.
