Tulipes De Bagatelle

1959. Colour lithograph, signed in image lower left, printer’s line in lower margin, 60 x 90cm. Minor handling creases and edge wear. Linen-backed.

Roger Bezombes fills the image with an exuberant bouquet of tulips painted in saturated orange, yellow, violet, green and turquoise, set against a red-orange ground and anchored by a sharply geometric blue vase. Printed details announce the “Avant-première des Floralies Internationales de Paris” at Bagatelle from 4 to 26 April 1959. The loose, calligraphic flowers contrast with the formal black title below, creating a lively modern interpretation of the traditional floral-show poster. Municipal and horticultural organisations are listed in the lower panel, and the printer’s line credits Mourlot. Produced for the City of Paris gardens service, the design promoted Bagatelle’s spring display as a preview of the forthcoming international floral exhibition.
