First Anti-Imperialist Song Festival
1979. Colour screenprint, Earthworks Poster Collective logo in image, 76 x 51cm. Minor scuffs, creases and edge wear. Linen-backed.
A crowd carrying a large flag advances beneath sheets of repeated dollar bills, while a small guitar and microphone introduce the musical theme. The political poster announces the festival at the Union Theatre, Parramatta Road, Sydney University, on Saturday 24 February, with dance and music from ten countries including Latin America, Iran, Vietnam and Palestine. Black, red, yellow and grey printing gives the design the urgency of a political broadsheet and links international performance to opposition to economic and military power. Designed and printed by Earthworks Poster Collective, the poster promoted a Sydney event in which music was presented as a form of international solidarity and anti-imperialist political action. Held in QAGOMA.
